Sales Invoice
A sales invoice is the formal record of a sale between you (or your gallery) and a buyer. It records the date, buyer, artwork details (title, year, medium, dimensions, catalogue number), price, VAT where relevant, payment terms and any conditions of sale. For artists, the invoice is a key document for tax, accounting and provenance. Issue one for every sale, even informal studio purchases, and store a copy in your digital archive against the artwork's record. Pair the invoice with a certificate of authenticity so the buyer leaves with a complete set of documents. A consistent invoicing habit signals professionalism, supports a clean chain of ownership and makes year-end accounting far less painful.
