About this work
The portrait, "What Is Held", reflects on the construction of identity through layered memory and subtle traces. Working from within the studio as a source of sustained observation, the painting reveals a figure that feels both familiar and elusive, emerging from complex atmospheric shifts. Andrew Bowers addresses the enduring questions of presence and impermanence, grounding the work in an exploration of character. Presented within a black floating frame, the piece allows for a focused engagement with its internal subtleties.
