'Where Summer Opens' reflects on the sensory memory of a place held in the warmth of a summer afternoon. Drawing inspiration from the lavender fields at Terrington, North Yorkshire, the work explores both the structured and the wild aspects of the landscape. The composition is grounded by the deep purples of lavender rows, which give way to an abstract expanse of distant fields and a soft summer sky. Part of Andrew Bowers's continuing study of place, the painting holds the feeling of a landscape saturated with colour and light.
