Leeds Fine Artists

These are the painings I've submitted in response to Leeds Fine Artists invitation to apply for the elction of new exhibiting members.

My paintings explore the quiet structures that divide and connect landscape: paths, walls, waterways, horizons and traces of human activity. Working primarily in layered acrylic and mixed media, I begin with observed or remembered places and gradually simplify them through tone, geometry, colour and texture. I am interested in the point at which a recognisable landscape becomes something more ambiguous, while retaining its sense of place.

My ongoing Quiet Divides series brings these concerns together. Recent works extend its visual language through stronger geometric interventions and more expressive surfaces, while remaining grounded in real places, travel and personal memory.
